The season-long campsites at Lake Kandle Campground and Swim Club go fast -- there is often a waiting list. But there are so many amenities, it is worth the wait.

The campground is an RV/trailer/Pop-up camping site only -- no tents -- and each of the 120 sites is set among tall trees for maximum cool and maximum privacy. Of course, they are equipped with electric, water and sewer hook-ups, as well as a fire ring so you can sit around at night and toast marshmallows or cook a rustic dinner. Once you set up your site, it is yours for the whole season which runs from the end of April to the first weekend in October.

Throughout the summer you can cool off in the modern pool and after you take a dip, you can sit in the sun and log onto your computer and use their WiFi to pick up your e-mails or check in with the office, if you must.

If you prefer to swim in a more natural environment, the lake beckons. Smack in the middle you’ll find diving platforms, chutes and slides for wet, splashy family fun. And it is the lake that is the heart and soul of Lake Kandle. Bring your canoe, kayak or motorboat (electric motors only) and spend days paddling around. Or rent one of the paddle boats. Or drop you line into the stocked lake and fish for bass, perch, pickerel and other critters. Who knows. If you have the big catch you could end up with your picture on their website.

When you are done swimming, send the kids to the playground areas or have a game of volleyball, basketball or softball. Even on rainy days, you can enjoy a game of ping pong in the locker room.

Come laundry day, there is a Laundromat. But there is no camp store so if you run out of milk, you’ll have to make a short drive to the nearest grocery.

Even if you don’t camp, you can still enjoy Lake Kandle’s lake and swimming pool facilities with a summer swim club membership. But like the campsites, expect a waiting list.
