Roughing it doesn’t have to be rough at Oldman’s Creek Campground. This 19 ½ acre campground has just enough creature-comforts to keep you content but you still know you are out in the great outdoors.

Bring your RV (there are 143 sites), or load up your tent (rough it at one of 13 tent sites) or if you need a little more luxury, book one of the three cabins (loaded with fridge, AC and microwave). With electric, water and even satellite TV, you have all the hook-ups you need to relax for a day, weekend, month or all season. Oldman’s Creek is open year-round so even if you get the urge to escape in the throes of winter, they’re there to welcome you.

And whenever you go, you’ll get quite a welcome. Forget something? Drop by the general store. Get a little dirtier than you expected? The 24-7 laundry can get you spit-spot in minutes. And with a basketball court, lake stocked with fish, paddle boats, game room and propane filling station, you’ve got the world on a string.

Their calendar of events is not only jam-packed, it is also filled with some hilarious activities. We’re not talking about the weekly Friday night movies which they show on a theater-size screen. Or the fishing tournaments, kids’ “Olympics,” lakeside bonfires and other family-oriented activities that take place throughout the season. We’re talking about the make-your-own-mask Mardi Gras celebrations and the “Miss” Oldman’s Creek contest – in which men are the only contestants. Yup, it gets crazy but it is family-friendly fun that keeps folks coming back year after year.

BRING THE FAMILY

The renovated kids' play area makes everyone happy. The youngsters get to romp around on the colorful climbing station and parents get a breather knowing that the fenced-in area can keep them from roaming too far.

COME PREPARED

You won't need a license to fish in the lake because it is catch-and-release but you will need to bring your own equipment and bait. Oh, and if you are renting a cabin, you'll also have to bring your own linens.

WHO KNEW

It should come as no surprise that the combination of gas prices and the economy has spurred an increase in camping as a family get-away.
