The Allen Family Farm specializes in indigenous South Jersey blueberries. The Allens are also adamant advocates for their berries nutritious qualities. They take pride knowing that their sweet blue fruitlets are delicious and nutritious. Blueberries are fat-free, sodium free, and a good source of fiber, vitamin C and iron. One cup of fresh blueberries has more fiber than most fruits and vegetables and only 80 calories. Blueberries are also a great source for antioxidents and can help in improving night vision.
Every year the Allen Family Farm hosts its annual Blueberry Festival from May 20 to August 20, when blueberries are perfect for picking and eating straight off the bush. The farm also produces apples, peaches, and tomatoes.
The Allen Family Farm Banana Blueberry Bread Recipe:
3 cups unsifted flour
1 -1/2 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 -1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
2/3 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups mashed bananas
2 cups fresh blueberries
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in oats. Add oil, eggs, bananas, and blueberries, stirring until mixed. Pour batter into two greased 8-1/2 by 4-1/2 inch loaf pans.
Bake at 350 degree F for about 60 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pans to a wire rack. When cool, wrap and refrigerate for several hours before slicing.
