Conte Farms
It doesn't get any fresher than right from the plant and at Conte Farms, you can head into the fields and pick your own Jersey Fresh fruits and veggies. Or just drop by the farm market and stock up on what the farmers have harvested. Leave room for their famous donuts and soft-serve ice cream.

Between April and Thanksgiving -- give or a take a few weeks depending on the whims of Mother Nature -- the fields and orchards at Conte Farms are packed with fresh fruits and vegetables. And depending on how motivated you are, you can either pick-your-own or let the pros do the picking for you.

Conte Farm grows dozens of different crops so there is almost always something for you to pick from the fields --strawberries, blueberries, peaches, peppers, pears, plums, pumpkins, peas and numerous varieties of apples. Be friendly to the environment and bring a bag from home, check in at the retail center and then head into the fields for a day of picking. Your stash will be weighed when you return from the fields.

OK, so not everybody is inspired to pick-their-own. The Conte Farms folks understand. That’s why they have a retail market with dozens of varieties of Jersey Fresh produce that they've already picked for you. They also have bedding flowers, hanging baskets, fruit baskets and a bakery.

And for lots of folks, the bakery is what keeps them coming back again and again. Because it is all about the donuts. Conte’s cider donuts are legendary and people line up early to get their donut fix. Of course, there are others who prefer Conte's homemade soft serve ice cream. Between the two, just toss the calorie counter out the window and enjoy the rich homemade flavors.

The Conte Farms also has picnic tables if you want to pack a lunch and then nibble on your fresh-picked fruits. During the fall, kids will get a kick out of picking their very favorite pumpkin for jack-o-lantern’s and then spend time wandering through the corn maze.

BRING THE FAMILY

Make a whole day of it -- pick apples and pumpkins, go for a hayride and then play hide and seek in the corn maze. That sounds like a fun family plan, doesn't it?

COME PREPARED

You'll be in the fields so wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. And call ahead to make sure that what you want is ripe and ready for picking.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

Whoa!  Watch out.  The Jersey Devil has popped up several times in the last few decades -- '79, '82 and '85 -- so this is definately one of his favorite spots to show his icky, beady-eyed, little face.
