Duffield Farm's Pick-Your-Own
They call this a pick-your own farm. But head into the fields and orchards at Duffield's Farm and the fruits and vegetables are so fresh they almost jump into your basket themselves.

You wonder why they call it “Jersey Fresh?" Slather on the sunscreen and head into the fields at Duffield’s Farm and find out. The Duffield’s have been farming since the 30s and their land is ripe with more than 35 varieties of fruits and veggies. Pick up a basket at the barn and then head into the fields to snap up apples, peaches, pumpkins, peas, strawberries and of course, Jersey tomatoes. You can call ahead to find out what is ready for picking.

But there is more to Duffield’s than just picking your own produce. There are activities for kids and sometimes they can even help feed the animals.

Of course, if tromping through the crops just isn’t your thing, you can always pick up fresh-grown produce at Duffield’s farmstand. And while you are there, you can get dessert, too. The cider donuts are a specialty and the cakes are worth every calorie.

For a really unusual kid’s birthday party, try a day at the farm. Party packages are available featuring hayrides, feeding the animals and other treats.

BRING THE FAMILY

What says "family" more than hayrides? Year-round you can hop aboard for a hayride around the farm. And every Saturday in October is packed with family activities, including the Corn Maze and a visit to Pumpkin Land.

COME PREPARED

Those fields can get warm in the summer so sunscreen is a must.  So is inspect repellant.  And bring bottles of water.

WHO KNEW

To help you figure out which crops are ready for picking, the NJ Department of Agriculture has a Harvest Date chart on its website.  Go to www.state.nj.us/jerseyfresh/searches/availability.htm to figure out when it is time to pick your favorite produce.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

It wasn't that long ago that he showed up here in Sewell.  Back in May of 2002 two locals reported seeing a pointy-nosed, pointy-eared "thing" with two itty-bitty arms hop across the road on  two hind legs. If that isn't the Jersey Devil, then really, what was it???
