Organic farming techniques have been “berry, berry” good to the folks at Emery’s Organic Blueberry Farm. With eight different varieties of New Jersey’s favorite berry, Emery’s 60 acres are blooming all summer long with chemical-free, pesticide-free fruits.

When Mother Nature cooperates, you can go into the fields and pick your own berries. If you are bringing kids, remember that they require one adult to supervise every two children.

And kids are going to love it here. With the farm’s goats, sheep, guinea hens and chickens, there are lots of picture-worthy moments. On weekends, holidays and when the farm gets really busy, they break out the tractor for hayrides around the farm.

After the berries are done for the season, hang tight because pumpkin season is right around the corner and the fun starts all over again. Somewhere around the end of September you can pick your own pumpkins and hop on the hayrides for one last fall fling.

If you’re not a do-it-yourself picker, let the folks at Emery do it and get your berries at their new farm market. Load up on fresh-baked pies, muffins, jams, strudels, jellies and other yummy take-home treats.

BRING THE FAMILY

Bring the kids out on a weekend and you can all enjoy a hayride through the fields and pay a visit to the goats, guinea hens, sheep and other critters that live on the farm. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

COME PREPARED

Emery's is only open when conditions are right so before you head over, call ahead to make sure that Mother Nature has been cooperating. And remember, this is a working farm so wear comfy shoes, bring water and slather on the sunscreen.

WHO KNEW

North America provides more than 90 percent of the world's blueberry crop.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

Back in 1980, the old J.D. was spotted flitting across a street here in New Egypt. Seems nobody can resist those sweet Jersey blueberries.
