At Hallock’s UPick Farm and Greenhouse, the early bird catches the . . . berries and peas and beets and spinach and broccoli and eggplants and sweet potatoes and pumpkins and dozens of other Jersey Fresh fruits and produce. The UPick farm opens at 7 a.m. every morning (weather permitting) and all day long you can wander through their fields filling up on whatever is ready for picking.
They’ll set you up with everything you need -- bags, buckets and gloves, although if you have your own bags, that’s just fine. Everything is priced by the pound. The Hallocks grow about 50 different crops and since everything comes in at a different times, it's best to call ahead to see what is ready. Just about everything they grow is OK for you to pick -- except corn. That one they do themselves.
If you would rather just let the people who know what they’re doing do the picking, you can simply drop by the farm market and load up on whatever they’ve brought in from the fields.
The Hallock’s greenhouse is like playland for the green-thumb set. Open from May to July, they sell pots, flats, hanging baskets, mulch, soil and even some tools so you can make you own home garden the best on the block.
