Heritage Station Pick-Your-Own Farm
When the crops come in, families head to Heritage Station to spend a day on the farm filling their baskets with peaches, apples, pears, pumpkins and other Jersey Fresh produce. The hayrides are pretty cool, too.

You don’t need a calendar to know what month it is. Just check what’s growing in the orchards at Heritage Station. If it's July, the peaches are ready for picking. September means the Asian pears and apples are ripe. When the pumpkins start sprouting, it must be October. In all, there are dozens of varieties of peaches, pears, apples and other produce that you can pick on your own.

The Heritage family also grows other items, but they like to do that picking themselves. After they come in from the fields, you can purchase asparagus, berries and other produce from their farm market. And if you are inspired to try to grow your own, you can also pick up vegetable and bedding plants to take home.

Although this is a working farm, there is plenty of room for play, too. Seasonal hayrides get everyone into the spirit of the holidays. And the over 21 set will certainly enjoy sampling the Heritage Station wines that have earned numerous awards.

BRING THE FAMILY

When an occasion calls for a party, host it at Heritage Station. You'll get to go into the orchard to pick fruits and veggies, go on a hayride and feed the farm animals. And during September and October, the little ones can romp around in a kid-size corn maze. Sure beats a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey.

COME PREPARED

Call ahead to make sure that what you want to pick is ready for picking. Wear clothing suitable for farm fields such as sneakers or work shoes. And in the summer, don't forget the sunscreen.

WHO KNEW

Although they look like apples, botanically, Asian Pears are really pears, not a hybrid of apples and pears.  They come from three species indiginous to China.

SUPPORT

Buying locally grown produce helps support local family farms so when you stock up at Heritage Station you are helping to keep alive South Jersey's centuries-old farming industry.

TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT

LEAVE NO TRACE
