How ya’ gonna keep ‘em down on the farm? Take a trip to Johnson’s Corner. This family-owned operation provides acres of fun.

All summer long, you can load up on right-off-the-stem fruits and veggies. The website keeps you up to date on what’s ready for picking. And with everything from strawberries, blueberries, apples and peaches to corn, pumpkins and peanuts there is always something popping up out of the ground.

While you are there, just follow the aroma to the kitchen where you can also stock up on fresh-baked home goods. Fresh breads. Muffins. Fruit cobblers. Pot pies. Yum. Worth every calorie.

After a hayride trip around the farm, kids will want to discover the Discovery Barnyard. Yes, there are live farm animals to meet. But they will also want to spend time on the climbing rocks, go-kart track, three play areas with equipment for different ages and other activities. And while the kids are romping around, parents can hide out in the shaded seating areas sipping on an icy cold drink from the snack bar.

Throughout the year, there are special activities, too. Just look at the calendar to figure out what’s coming up next . . . Mother’s Day specials, Halloween activities, you get the idea.

BRING THE FAMILY

Now here's an idea for a different family reunion -- a farm party.  A tented picnic area can accommodate between 20 and 200 people and packages include a hayride, picking what's in season and a trip to the animal barnyard. Now there is something the whole family can enjoy.

COME PREPARED

You can find out what's in the fields on the website, but it is a good idea to call ahead to make sure the crops are ready for picking. And when you do hit the fields, slather on the sunscreen.

WHO KNEW

New Jersey is known for its peaches, but they took the scenic route getting here. Peaches went from China to what was Persia and is now Iran, and then moved on to Greece, Italy, France and Spain. No, it didn't get to Jersey yet.  Somewhere around 1570, Spanish explorers brought peaches to Mexico and South America. Then it went up to North America, on to Virgina and THEN in the early 1600s, peaches  made their way to New Jersey where they took to the soil and went on to become one of the state's favorite and most eagerly anticipated crops.

TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT

No stops withing walking distance of location.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Help save the family farm by keeping it clean.  Trash in the fields can damage the plants so keep your litter in bags.  And although it is fine to pick the fruits and veggies, don't walk on them.
