Riverside Homestead Farm at Taylor's Lane
Why buy produce that has been sitting on a grocery shelf when you can get field-fresh organic produce at River Side Homestead Farm. Pick your own on their family-run farm or drop by their farm stand for whatever is in season.

For nine generations the Taylor family has tilled the soil of their family-owned farm. Even after donating 89-acres to the New Jersey Natural Lands trust for a conservation easement, they still work the land growing organic fruits and veggies. They do let you come onto the farm and pick your own but if you’re not into the whole playing farmer thing, there is a farm stand where you can pick up what the Taylors have planted and picked.

The quantities aren’t huge – it is, after all, organic and that requires a lot of attention. But there is a good selection throughout the growing season -- apples, blueberries, cherries, corn, eggplant, melons, peaches, pumpkins, squash and all kinds of other Jersey Fresh produce.  No picking the lima beans though -- that is left to the Taylor family.

Whether you pick your own or prefer to let them do the work, take time to wander the farm’s trails. The family installed interpretive markers so you can learn about the farm’s history.

BRING THE FAMILY

Having trouble getting the kids to eat nutritious foods? Bring them along and let them pick what is in season. They just might turn into big fans of veggies after they've helped bring home the harvest.

COME PREPARED

After you've picked your Jersey Fresh fruits and veggies, spend a little time strolling the trails on the preserve.  You'll need insect repellant because it can get buggy. It is, after all, an organic farm and pesticides are nowhere to be found.

WHO KNEW

The River Side Homestead Farm inspired several of its inhabitants to literary heights.  Mary Roberts Taylor who lived there from 1888-1980, wrote about her life as a Quaker farm wife and mother in a book entitled Gently Sister Gently. Later, her son Joseph Taylor wrote The Cinnaminson Waterfront Today and Yesterday - The Current State of the Riverfront on the Delaware with an Environmental and Land Use History of the Area.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

Do you really see the Jersey Devil picking his own fruits and veggies?  No, he waits for someone else to do the hard work and then raids their stash at night.  So you're pretty safe during daylight but come night time . . . watch out!
