After 85 years and four generations, Russo Orchard Lane is proud to still be farming.  What started in the early 1900s as a small plot of land and roadside fruit and vegetable stand has expanded into a 250-acre fruit, vegetable, and greenhouse tomato farm.

Today, all of Russo’s farm produce is picked fresh daily and conveniently sold in their farm markets, which are located right on their farm in Allentown and in the Trenton Farmers’ Market.  Open daily from May to December, Russo’s also sells also a fine selection of jams, jellies, cider, wine, holiday decorations, Christmas trees, and floral arrangements.

But there’s so much more to Russo’s than their markets – especially if you have the itch to spend time enjoying the great outdoors and experience first hand the way things grow on a farm.  From June through October, Russo’s offers a wide variety of pick-your-own fruits and vegetables, such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, nectarines, apples, peas and pumpkins.  In December, you can bring the family to choose your Christmas tree.  Just remember to call ahead before you venture to their farm to find out what is available for picking and to make sure that they’re open.

The fun doesn’t stop with the picking!  Russo’s also has a number of other fun outdoor activities and unique attractions.  Depending on the season, kids can race their four giant straw horses, ride the "Pumpkin Patch Express" hay ride, get lost in their funny and challenging corn maze, or bundle up for a Christmas spirit horse and carriage ride.  And if you don’t have a place to celebrate a weekend birthday, Russo’s is the perfect spot – call them at (609) 259-3684 to make reservations.

BRING THE FAMILY

Picking your own fruits and vegetables is one great way to have an enjoyable time on the farm. But there are also plenty of other fun activities and unique attractions.  Make sure that you check Russo’s website at http://www.russosorchardlanefarm.com/ to see what’s in season.  You won’t want to miss the “Pumpkin Patch Express” hayride or the giant corn maze!

COME PREPARED

If the weather is bad, you better call ahead to make sure that they will be open.  When you call, you can also ask what fruits and vegetables are going to be available that day.

WHO KNEW

The Russo family originated in a small town in Sicily called Messina.  It was there in the early 1900’s that Anthony Russo decided to travel across the Atlantic Ocean to America to pursue his dream of growing grapes in California.  Limited by financial means, Anthony never made it to California.  Eventually, he saved enough money to buy a small amount of farmland in Mount Laurel, NJ and four generations later, the rest is history.

SUPPORT

Purchasing locally grown produce is not only fresher, it’s also a great way to help support New Jersey’s tradition of family-owned farms and businesses.
