Terhune Orchards
At Terhune Orchards, your biggest decision will be what to do. Pick your own apples, pumpkins or other fresh produce? Drop by the farm stand to stock up on fresh-pressed cider, pies or other baked goods? Join in the special events and activities? Why not do what most folks do and do it all.

Pam and Gary Mount love farming. They love it so much they want you to share in the experience so come on out to Terhune Orchards, their 200 acre farm and start picking. Depending on what is in season, you can snap up your own berries, peaches, apples or pumpkins.

But picking your own is only part of what goes on at Terhune Orchards. The family farmers have transformed an old barn into a farm market that is packed to the rafters with fresh-from-the-field produce. The farm grows more than 35 crops and since each of those has a few different types, well, you can get an idea of the many, many things you’ll find at the farm market. In addition to the produce, they also sell fresh cheeses, milk, a wide variety of jams, jellies and dressings. And local New Jersey honey. And fresh local chicken and beef pot pies for a quick and easy dinner. And homemade salsa (tomato, peach, nectarine, blueberry and cranberry, in season) and apple sauce. And a selection of organic dairy products and eggs from local farms. In other words, pretty much everything.

Even city slicker kids will love spending a day at Terhune Orchards. They can hop on one of the “pedal tractors” and ride into the fields on their way to visit the barnyard animals. Bring the camera so you can snap pix of the kids with the sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, geese and chickens. During the summer, the Mount family hosts a Read & Pick program that combines hearing a story about one of the farm’s fruits and then going into the fields to pick their own. There are other programs here too including birthday parties, group tours, and of course, hay rides and pony rides.

BRING THE FAMILY

Petty zoos, farm trails, and wagon and pony rides are available for the kids at the Terhune Farm. The farm is mainly catered to the needs of adventurous and outdoor-loving kids.

COME PREPARED

Farm animals and family dogs don't mix so you'll have to leave Fido at home.

WHO KNEW

OK, you have all that great fresh produce.  But what do you do with it?  Log onto the Terhune Orchards website. They post recipes from customers and recipe contest winners that use their fresh-grown fruits and veggies.

SUPPORT

Family farms are an important part of New Jersey's heritage.  You can help keep that tradition going and  support local farmers by purchasing the produce they grow. It is fresher, tastes better and preserves an important piece of New Jersey history.

TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT

NJ Transit Bus 606 to ETS Circle & Bus Stop (Rosedale Road & Carter Road). The farm is approximately 1 mile from this stop. Walk along Carter Road and make a right onto Cold Soil Road.

LEAVE NO TRACE

There is lots of wildlife along the Farm Trail, a one-mile trail along the farm's edge.  Depending on when you are there, you might see turtles, frogs, pond fish, waterfowl and all sorts of birds and other critters.  They are fun to look at but please don't feed them or disturb their nests.
