Woodbury Farmers' Market
If it is Thursday, it must be Farm Market Day in Woodbury. The weekly market features fresh produce and baked goods by nearby farmers and merchants.

Mmmm! Thursdays are the tastiest days in Woodbury. That’s when about a dozen local farmers, merchants and bakers set up shop for the Woodbury Farmers’ Market. And they have just about everything you need to whip up fresh, flavorful meals.

This year’s merchants bring in varieties of home-grown mushrooms from nearby Kennett Square, melons, honey, eggs, sweet juicy fruits and snappy crisp veggies, some of which are certified organic products. For dessert, there are homemade baked goods and you can add a nice touch to your table with locally grown flowers. And when it is time to wash up, do it with handcrafted soaps, creams and balms.

To add to the atmosphere, the Woodbury Farmers Market brings in local musicians who perform during market hours.  And to keep things interesting, they host contests where shoppers can compete for bragging rights and blue ribbons concocting recipes using what is in season. Even the farmers get in on the action. Check out the trophy awarded to the winner of the First Annual “Best Tasting Tomato” contest.

The Market runs from June through the first Thursday in October.

WHO KNEW

In 1777, British General Lord Cornwallis, who would later surrender to George Washington at Yorktown, set up  his headquarters in Woodbury during his advance to capture Philadelphia.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

He doesn't often show up in Woodbury, but on May 13, 2001, a father reports seeing something dash in front of his car as he was driving his daughter home.  He leaped out of the car and saw it wasn't a deer.  But he did say it was about 6 feet tall, had wings, hooves, and a face that was a cross between a dog and a horse. Well, if that wasn't the Jersey Devil, who was it?
