South Jersey Bass Club Association
With 28 active bass clubs in the area, it is hard to keep track of everyone's tournament schedules. That's where the South Jersey Bass Club Association comes in. The group coordinates schedules, publicizes events and holds fund-raising activities to develop the sport.
How to Become a Member

All clubs who fish in the southern or central New Jersey area who believe they could benefit from membership in the SJBCA are invited to join.  Member clubs pay dues of only $20 per year--a significant bargain considering the benefits.  "Associate" memberships, which require attendance at only one meeting per year, are available for clubs who may have difficulty attending the meetings.  To join (or just to see what our organization is about), contact us for an invitation to a meeting.  Contact us by e-mail at sjbca99@comcast.net (Fred) or sjbca05@comcast.net (Al).  For telephone contacts, call Fred at (856) 358-6073 or Carmen at (609) 729-2504.

Keeping the tournament schedules of its 28 member bass clubs straight is the South Jersey Bass Club Association’s biggest task, but it is by no means its only one. The group, comprised of representatives from its member clubs, not only helps prevent tournament scheduling conflicts among its members, they also serve as South Jersey’s bass angler’s voice to government agencies and conduct fund-raising events to support various community activities and fishing events.

The SJBCA also hosts a popular open buddy tournament at Union Lake in Millville each year on the first Sunday after the end of the closed season for bass (first Sunday after June 15). Each October, the SJBCA conducts the "Bass Bowl" in which member clubs are invited to send a six-person team to fish for bragging rights.

Each year, the SJBCA recognizes members and volunteers from member clubs who dedicate significant time and effort to support their activities and initiatives.

Member clubs that are conducting tournaments have access to SJBCA’s 20-foot camper trailer equipped with complete set of tournament weigh-in equipment (table, two digital scales, tub, aerator, scoreboard, bullhorn, traffic cones, cooler, etc), any of which can be borrowed by member clubs for their tournaments. The member clubs of the South Jersey Bass Club Association host two types of tournaments: "club tournaments" which are open only to each club's members and "open buddy tournaments" which are open to the general public.

BRING THE FAMILY

There is a lot of bonding that can happen when parents and kids are sitting in a boat together fishing for hours on end.  Want to get started?  Check out the SJCBA's annual Youth Outdoor Day each August when newcomers can join in fishing events. They provide the gear, all you have to do is show up.

WHO KNEW

The SJBCA owns a supply of rod and reel combos which can be borrowed by member clubs for their kids fishing events. They also have a complete kids' casting event kit for member clubs interested in conducting an event.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

The J.D. has these dopey little wing-arms that aren't good for diddly-squat.  So he can hardly be holding a fishing rod now, can he?  So don't worry about him showing up at your bass tournament.

VOLUNTEER

Reps from the member bass clubs help shape the activities and policies of SJBCA so the best way to get involved is through your group. And if your group doesn't belong to SJBCA, contact sjbca99@comcast.netsjbca05@comcast.net or call 856-358-6073.

SUPPORT

Each March, the SJBCA hosts a Fisherman's Flea Market where vendors offer gear and tackle for, if not a song, a lot more affordable than you might find elsewhere.  Proceeds help fund the SJBCA's activities as well as a scholarship they offer to high school seniors pursuing a college degree in marine biology, environmental sciences or other relevatn degree.

LEAVE NO TRACE

If  you particiate in fishing tournaments, you probably already know the importance of keeping the waterways free of trash.  But it never hurts to pass along a reminder. And please make sure your boats are in good working order to reduce chances of oil seeping into the waters.
