Why stand on the banks of the Mullica and Batsto Rivers when you can be smack dab in the middle, paddling along of their gently-flowing waters. Adams Canoe Rental (ACR) can provide you with aluminum canoes, heavy-duty plastic kayaks and life jackets for a fun and safe trip.

If you are new to canoeing/kayaking, ACR will start you out on Atsion Lake. Rent your equipment by the hour while you practice the basics of paddling, steering and canoe safety.

Once you have a little experience, you’re ready for the four-hour trek down the Batsto River. Hop into ACR’s van and they will transport you to the drop-in point at Quaker Bridge. Then you’re on your own to enjoy an afternoon on the river. Keep paddling to the pick-up point just above Historic Batsto Village when the ACR staff picks you up and takes you back to your car.

For a real adventure, check out Adams Canoe Rental’s overnight rentals for two wilderness camping trips. Bring all your camping gear, they’ll help you load it into canoes/kayaks and drive you to the drop-in point along the Mullica River. This branch takes you to the Mullica River Campsite in Wharton State Forest. (Only 100 campers are allowed per night and reservations are required through NJ Department of Parks and Forestry). The next day, as you near Historic Batsto Village, ACR is there to pick you up.

Another overnight river trip will take you from Hampton Furnace to Batsto Lake. Make your reservations for the Lower Forge Campsite in Wharton State Forest. Only 50 people are permitted per night.

BRING THE FAMILY
Children under age 6 are not permitted in canoes or kayaks.
COME PREPARED
Adams Canoe Rental does not accept credit cards so make sure you have cash on hand. Also, leave the beer and wine at home.  Alcohol is not permitted and they do check your coolers.
WHO KNEW

Surprisingly, holiday weekends are far less busy than you might think.  If you want a nice, quiet trip, schedule it for Memorial Day, July 4th or Labor Day weekend.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS
No Jersey Devil sightings but the first canoes and kayaks out in the morning are likely to see wildlife. But after the critters spot the first people on the rivers, they run and take cover.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Throwing food or trash into the river is just so uncool.  Bring trash bags with you so your sandwich wrappers, water bottles and other trash don't end up in the river.
