Pakim Pond
Size isn't everything. Pakim Pond, at the end of a trail within Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, is small but with its dark tea-colored waters make it a picturesque haven.

With covered pavilions, dozens of tables, and grills Pakim Pond is picnic central. For anglers, it is freshwater fishing heaven, especially for sunfish, pickerel and catfish. But you’ll have to do it from the shore – there are no launches and motor boats are a no-no.

For folks interested in unusual foliage, it is a great place to check out a wide array of carnivorous plants in the wild. The 5-acre pond is surrounded by the Forest’s pine-oak and pitch pine forests.

Want to spend more time here?  There are three cabins on the shores of Pakim Pond that are available April - October.  Contact the NJ Division of Parks and Forestry for details and reservations.

BRING THE FAMILY

Bring the whole family -- aunts, uncles, cousins.  There are several covered picnic pavilions. All you need to do is call the NJ Division of Parks and Forests to reserve it for your family picnic.

COME PREPARED

Even during the summer months, the evening temps at Pakim Pond can run lower than the surrounding area so even if it be sure to bring a sweater even when the weather is warm because you just never know.

WHO KNEW

The name  Pakim is thought to have come from the name of a Lenape Indian chief named Pakimintzen.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Trash bags are distributed in the park so be sure to leave nothing behind but your foot prints.
