Beginning birders, experts and everyone in-between can join in BirdQuest, a five-hour competitive event in which teams compete to see who can spot the most species of birds. BirdQuest events take place in Burlington and Gloucester counties and the rules are pretty simple.
All teams must be registered and consist of at least three people. Beginning on May 3, your team can head wherever you'd like to start tracking the birds. You can stick to one place or hop in your car and roam the county looking for the best viewing spots.
In Gloucester County, participants have the option of traveling by bus, but you have to reserve your seat in advance.
The event’s official hours are 7 a.m. – Noon; however, not everyone decides to stay out the entire morning. At the end of the event, gather at one of the designated spots (Palmyra Cove Nature Park in Burlington County; Atkinson Park in Gloucester County) to tally up your scores, get your official BirdQuest T-shirt and find out who wins the prizes – and bragging rights for the year. A complementary lunch is served at both BirdQuest events.
