The real world and the land of make-believe stand side-by-side at Paws Farm Nature Center. At Paws Farm, kids learn about nature, their community and themselves through the hands-on programs and acti vities that are spread out through several buildings and a few acres of outdoor space.

Indoors, youngsters can pretend to their hearts content with a pint-size “country market” and in the “Land, Sea and Forest” section, kids ages 4 and under and pretend to ride a train, row a boat and climb into a “Ladybug Cottage.” The main building is home to many smaller critters that will give kids a giggle – tortoises, a chinchilla, hedgehog, ferret and a couple of very mouthy parrots.

Outdoors, kids can follow a trail that winds past a climb-on wooden boat, climb-on wooden train and climb-on playground. (Are we seeing a pattern here?) After they burn off some energy they can venture into the “veterinary” clinic and learn how take care of their animal friends.

Bring your camera because you will want to remember how the kids reacted when they came face-to-face with pot-bellied pigs, sheep, goats, and other barnyard animals. Throughout the day, staff run various programs that will really help kids connect with nature and the world all around them.

BRING THE FAMILY

If ever a place was made for families, this is it.  Programs, exhibits and activities are all specially designed for the young'ns and the affordable prices are designed for budget-conscious moms and dads.

COME PREPARED

Paws Farm does not accept credit or debit cards.  Payment is cash or check only so hit the ATM before you go. Remember to bring your camera so you can share snapshots of the kids having fun.  And there is a good chance that if they are romping around outside they're going to get a little dirty so if you are going out afterwards, you might want to bring a change of clothes.

WHO KNEW

Paws Farm Nature Center sits on what was once a Quaker farmstead.  John Darnell started construction on the main building in 1736 and for the next century, various owners continued to add bits here and there until 1844 when the West Wing was added.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

This place is cute.  The Jersey Devil doesn't do cute. So he won't be showing his un-cute face around here.
