DiMatteo Vineyards
Weekends are wine-tasting days at DiMatteo Vineyards, a family-owned winery that uses old-world winemaking techniques that have been in the family for years and years.

The DiMatteo family didn’t just “get into winemaking” - they grew up making with up with it! And as their son developed a serious interest in farming, they decided to merge their skills.

Now, with 14 acres of grapes on three different properties, the DiMatteo’s are a busy bunch of winemakers. Which suits them just fine. The family winery started producing wines in 2004 and since then have won more medals than they can count for their 15 varieties of grape and fruit wines.

The operation is still small so they don’t offer formal tours, but when you drop by on weekends for their wine tastings, you can roam around the vineyards and drop into the wine-making facility. If someone is there, they’ll be happy to answer your questions about the rushing, pressing, aging and bottling process they use to make their traditional Italian-inspired wines. DiMatteo Vineyards specialize in Chardonnay, Diamond, Jersey White, Niagara, and Traminette. The red wines are Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Jersey Red, Pasquale Red, and Red Table Wine. Using fruits grown by local farmers, DiMatteo Vineyards also offers Blueberry, Cranberry, Strawberry, and Plum wines.

Throughout the year, the DiMatteo’s have a some fun with their tastings adding a chocolate fountain around Valentine’s Day, chocolates to nibble on during the cooler months and other little treats. Right now, they are only open for tastings on weekends, but if you can only stop by on a weekday, call ahead and they will work with you to schedule a visit.

COME PREPARED

DiMatteo is outgrowing its current location and is in the process of moving the tasting room to new facilities so be sure to call ahead to make sure you are headed to the right place.

WHO KNEW

His real name is Diesel, but around the vineyards, the Springer Spaniel who greets guests is known as Wine Dog . . . because he'll slurp up any wine that happens to spill, dribble or is left unattended in a wine-tasting glass.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

The dude must like his chardonnay because he's been seen flitting around Hammonton in 2005, '06 and '07.
