They never made the music charts, but music aficionados have long known that the local musicians who entertain at Albert Music Hall have been instrumental in preserving the “Piney” sound. And preserving that distinctive sound is one of the things that has made the Pine Barrens Jamboree: Down Home Melodies and Memories an annual tradition. For 14 years, musicians, crafts people, cooks, and others who appreciate what makes the Pine Barrens so special have thrown a giant party to let the rest of the world in on their secret.

All day long, performers who flock to the legendary Albert Music Hall will perform under the large Jamboree tent. Bring your own lawn chair and settle in for a whole day of lively, foot-tapping, hand-clapping country, folk and bluegrass music, all with a “down Jersey” accent.

Or explore the rest of the festival which is a treat for just about all the senses. Sample some traditional “Piney” cooking. Feast your eyes on the beauty of the landscape with canoe rides along Wells Mill Creek. Get your brain working with programs that will introduce you to the region’s rich and quirky history. And speaking of quirky, where else would you get the chance to get autographs from the most famous denizen of the Pine Barrens, the Jersey Devil himself?

BRING THE FAMILY

Introduce the kids to the Pinelands' natural treasures with canoe rides along scenic Wells Mill Lake. Then turn them loose on the games, face painting and other activities for children.

COME PREPARED

Parking gets really, really difficult so just avoid the whole mess and take the shuttles that take all the work out of getting there and back.

WHO KNEW

Merce Ridgway, a native son of the Pine Barrens and frequenter of the Albert Brothers’ “Old Home Place,” is the founding president of the Pinelands Cultural Society which operates Albert Music Hall.

JERSEY DEVIL SIGHTINGS

The Jersey Devil last showed up in Waretown in the winter of 1980 when he terrorized locals by flapping around and banging on their sheds almost every single night.
