Garden State Discovery Museum
At the Garden State Discovery Museum in Cherry Hill, kids and even grown-ups can let their imaginations roam free as they pretend to be archaeologists, farmers and other professions in a pine-sized environment. Hands-on exhibits also introduce them to New Jersey's ecosystems and natural resources.

If kids had the opportunity to design their ideal play place, it would probably end up looking like the Garden State Discovery Museum, a fantasy-land for imaginations where kids can touch absolutely everything. In pint-size environments, youngsters can play at being a farmer, scientist, newspaper reporter, construction worker or other grown-up activity.

But there is more than play going on here. The interactive exhibits include introductions to the world of nature and throughout the museum, kids can make friends with the turtles, giant African millipedes, Australian bearded dragons, Chinese water dragons and other critters who are part of the Museum’s World of Discovery exhibits. The kids can also walk along a miniature boardwalk where they will learn a thing or two about New Jersey’s coastal environment.

In the Science Shop, the oozy lava window, magical light and dark room and gravity-testing activities will turn science into fun. And when it comes to the arts, the center offers a jam-packed calendar of live entertainment and activities that will introduce the kids to the big world beyond their back yards.

Get the kids started learning early with some of the Museum’s classes and programs. (And we mean early – some programs are specially designed for the toddler-set.) All year long, Garden State Discovery Museum hosts special events that will get kids excited about all kinds of subjects – from the Pumpkin Palooza event to the Kids Rock music fest to pajama-clad New Year’s Day festivities. But no matter when you come, you and the kids will have a good time discovering the natural and man-made world around you.

BRING THE FAMILY

Bring everyone, all ages to this museum.

COME PREPARED

Hands-on play can sometimes get a little messy . . . and wet. Especially in the giant bubble area. So it is a good idea to bring a change of clothes and socks for the younger ones. And if your baby is still in diapers, pack a few extra and some wipes, too.

WHO KNEW

Bring a copy of your child's birth certificate and they get in free on their birthday.

VOLUNTEER

They start volunteers young at Garden State Discovery Museum with a mentor program in which  kids ages 12 and up can help out at the crafts tables and other activities. Of course, full-fledged grown-ups are also invited to participate as helpers on the museum floor, during special events and other duties. Call the museum for more details.

SUPPORT

Your check to the Garden State Discovery Museum Center for Learning will help support their programs and activities. But so will your contributions of disposable diapers, baby wipes, non-perishable food items/baby food, and recyclable milk containers and other plastic items -- they use those for crafts activities. Just clean them out and bring them to the museum and they'll take it from there.

TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT

NJ Transit Bus Route 406 stops within half a mile of the Museum.

LEAVE NO TRACE

It is never too soon to teach kids that littering and leaving trash behind is a no-no. So be sure to clean up after yourself when playing, eating or enjoying the Museum's facilities.
