Imagine the pride the Mood family felt when they were recognized for hanging in there as a family for more than 100 years with the New Jersey Agricultural Society’s Century Farm Award. The latest generation of Moods are still committed to the same goals their forefathers (and mothers) were when they started working this family farm in the 1870s.

Today, the family raises the Jersey Fresh produce that has helped earn the state its “Garden State” nickname. All season long, their farm market is stocked up with fresh-from-the-fields corn, squash, tomatoes, peppers, apples, peaches, pumpkins, berries, nectarines and other mouth-watering produce. During the fall months, freshly squeezed apple cider is an anxiously-awaited take-home treat . And when you sample their homemade jams, jellies, fruit butters you’ll want to spring for their cookbook that features favorite recipes by their customers.

If you feel inspired to try your hand at picking, have at it. The Mood family invites you into their fields to load up your baskets with berries, cherries, plums, grapes, pears and other fruits. Call ahead to find out what is ready to pick so you aren’t disappointed.

Come fall, the Moods break out the haywagon for special pumpkin and apple hayrides. They’ll take you into the fields where you can pick your own apples or pumpkins and then enjoy tasty treats at the end of the ride.

BRING THE FAMILY

Come September, the whole gang can have a few laughs together on the Apple Hayrides which include picking time, cider samples and donuts.  Yum!

COME PREPARED

Before you head out to start picking, check their website to see what is ripe.  And bring your own box or containers. They don't allow you to use bags for picking.

WHO KNEW

The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
