Biking is fun but biking with friends is better. That’s the thinking of the South Jersey Wheelmen club, a recreational and touring biking club that runs weekly rides through South Jersey and various century rides and special events.
During the summer months, the club hosts rides every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday for various skill levels. You can find out what skill level is required for the rides on their website.
Throughout the year, they also stage rides to various attractions in the region where you’ll pedal, take a break, visit the attraction, then hop on and ride again.
But without a doubt, it is the Jersey Devil Century ride that is their signature event. The route goes through Parvin State Park and you can hook up with them for 25, 50 or the full 100 miles. And of course, food and mixing and mingling with other club members is all part of the fun.
Club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month (except December when everyone is too busy). Meetings kick off at 6:30 pm with some social time and then they get down to the business of planning the club’s agenda and schedule.
Each fall the club holds it's annual convention, a weekend getaway that combines cycling, sight-seeing, nailing down club business and chilling out with club members and their families.
