Pack up the car, grab Fido and his leash and head to Timberlane Campgrounds, a 20-acre slice of serenity only about 20 minutes from Philadelphia’s historic district. Nothing glitzy here, just a well-run, family-owned campground where your family can kick back and get away from it all.
While most of the 88 campsites are set up with to accommodate RV’s (with pull-through access), if you are a hard-core outdoors fan, there are also sites for tent camping. But if you still need creature comforts, there is a cabin outfitted with a fridge, AC in the summer, heater for winter nights, and charcoal grill, fire rings and picnic table. And everyone can use the two handicapped-accessible bath houses that are also equipped with laundry facilities. But no matter how you like to camp, you’ll have your choice of spending your getaway in wooded or wide open campsites.
Once you unpack, you can hike the trails, lounge by the pool, hit the game room or catch an episode of your favorite TV show sitting by the fireplace in the lounge. Then there is shuffleboard or, for a fee, practice your swing in the batting cages. And since Timberlane is open year-round, you can pack up and go whenever your get the urge to get away.
