Who are our native pollinators? How important are they to local food production? What challenges to they face for survival in New Jersey? On Thursday August 13 at 7 p.m. a panel of science and conservation leaders will explore these and other questions at the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association's special 60th anniversary event: "Bees to Butterflies - Native Pollinators of NJ." Panelists include nationally recognized bee researcher Dr. Rachael Winfree from Rutgers University, Tim Dunne of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Jess Niederer of Honey Brook Organic Farm, the largest community-supported organic farm in the country. This new event also serves as a preview to the Watershed Association's 9th Annual Butterfly Festival on Saturday August 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the community can enjoy guided Butterfly House tours, nature hikes, children's activities, live music and entertainment, local food, and a wide array of demonstrations and exhibits about conservation and the environment.
