From Silver Lake Park’s 15 acres to New Brooklyn’s 758 acres in Winslow, the Camden County Park System packs a lot of fun into their parks. And with 20 parks in the system, they have pretty much thought of everything. Playground equipment, miles and miles of trails for hiking and biking, dedicated running tracks, miniature golf courses, picnic grounds . . . tennis courts . . . bocce courts . . . and dozens of volleyball, basketball and softball fields . . . we could go on and on . . . Camden County parks have it all.

Each park has something special. Maybe it is the workout trail in Challenge Grove. Or the boat launch at Haddon Lake Park. Or the Bird Sanctuary and Natural History Tree Trail at Hopkins Pond. Or the marina with the skyline views at Wiggins Park. But regardless of which park you visit, you’ll find facilities that are well-maintained and welcoming.

Cooper River Park, perhaps the crown jewel in the Park System, has a mind-boggling list of amenities and activities. Their modern boat house and long straightaways make it a popular spot for regattas and boating races. Even Fido can run and jump to his canine heart’s content in the Pooch Park.

When dusk settles in, you can find family-friendly concerts and performances at several parks which have stages and amphitheaters. Oh, and did we mention book fairs, kids festivals, 10K runs and other activities which take place spring through late fall. You can get the schedule of upcoming events at www.ccparks.com.

And so here it is. The complete list of the parks within the Camden County Park System: Berlin Park, Challenge Grove, Cooper River Park, Haddon Lake Park, Maria Barnaby Greenwald Memorial Park, Kirkwood Lake, Hopkins Pond, Laurel Ravine, Lake Worth, New Camden Park, New Brooklyn Park, Pennypacker Park, Newton Lake Park, Pyne Point Park, Pillings Lake, Silver Lake Park, Timber Creek, Von Neida Park, Wallworth Park and Wiggins Waterfront Park.

COME PREPARED

The Camden County Park System has a jaw-dropping array of services and activities and most are free. But some do require fees or permits.  To make sure you aren't disappointed, log onto their website: www.camdencounty.com/government/offices/parks/reserve.html and find out what you need to do to book your activity.

WHO KNEW

Camden County is named after Charles Pratt, the Earl of Camden, who lived from 1714-1794.

VOLUNTEER

Have ideas about what should happen in the parks?  You can attend the Camden County Parks Department's public meetings and let your voice be heard.  For information about meeting dates, topics and other details, go to www.camdencounty.com/government/offices/parks/meetings.html.

LEAVE NO TRACE

Camden County takes pride in their parks. So when you visit, be sure to use the trash receptacles.  When hiking the nature trails, don't disturb any of the habitats or take home "souvenirs."  Those wildflowers you cut or the twigs you toss around support the wildlife.  And we wouldn't want the critters to be homeless.
